Ferri sets new program record in draw controls in loss to #18 Cardinals

WASHINGTON, D.C. -  Josie Ferri moved to the top spot in the Haverford College women's lacrosse program record book for career draw controls but the Fords fell 19-7 to No. 18 Catholic University in their final non-conference contest of the season Tuesday afternoon at Cardinal Stadium.

Tallying five draw controls during the game to give her 143 for her career, Ferri surpassed Casey Sanborn '09 who previously held the record with 141.

Facing an early 2-0 hole, Haverford (4-7) trimmed its deficit to one when Alexa Pesce found Jen Schmidt for her eighth of the season. The Cardinals (6-4) answered with five of the next six to open a 7-2 advantage.

Ferri scored unassisted at 16:09, and Hannah Morgan followed a little over a minute later, to help the Fords close within 7-4 but Catholic surged again to take an 11-5 lead at the half.

Looking for a comeback against the highly-ranked Cardinals, Haverford opened the scoring in the second half when Schmidt converted a Megan Gallagher feed to score her second of the day. That would be as close as the Fords would get as the Catholic defense limited the Fords to just one more goal, Diana Perry's 20th of the season, over the remainder of the contest.

Schmidt and Morgan each finished with two goals to lead Haverford. Gallagher added a goal and an assist.

Leah Hammerschlag (4-7) made six saves in the loss.

Meghan Brady scored seven goals to pace the Cardinals.

The Fords return to Centennial Conference action on Thursday with a 4:30 p.m. contest at Bryn Mawr College.
