Women's Lacrosse Takes Down Cabrini 13-6

RADNOR, Pa. – The Haverford College women's lacrosse team scored seven unanswered goals in the second half to defeat the Cabrini Cavaliers 13-6 at the Edith Robb Dixon Field on Wednesday afternoon.

Haverford got the scoring started at the 18:10 mark of the first half on a goal from sophomore Maura Grant. Cabrini scored the next two to take a 2-1 advantage with 11:26 to go, but senior Diana Perry would draw the score even after her team-best sixth goal of the season. Senior Hannah Morgan would give the Fords the lead once more 26 seconds later on an assist from junior Elyse Adler.

With just over a minute to go, freshman Molly Lausten tallied a shorthanded free-position goal while Grant added her second of the contest with four seconds remaining on the clock. Haverford ended the first stanza with four consecutive goals to head into halftime up 5-2.

Cabrini cut its deficit to two after tallies by Melissa Scanzano and Lacie Doubet, but the Fords responded with a seven goal outburst which put the game out of reach.

Adler started the run with a goal as Haverford was on a man advantage at the 24:07 mark. Grant scored two consecutive goals to put the Fords up five. Sophomore Sarina Manetta pushed Haverford's lead to six (10-4) and Lausten added her second goal of the contest over a minute later. Morgan tacked on her second goal of the game with under 10 minutes remaining while sophomore Shannon Rafsol nabbed her first goal of the season to wrap up the scoring for the Fords.

Eight different Fords scored highlighted by Grant's game-high four scores. Alder had a team-high three helpers along with a goal while junior Christina Gould recorded two assists. Lausten had a team-best four caused turnovers and snagged three draw controls and two ground balls. Manetta had six ground balls to lead the Fords. Junior Megan Chenworth made five saves in the contest to pick up her second victory of the season.

Head coach Lauren Wray's team improved to 2-0 on the season while Cabrini dropped to 0-2. The women's lacrosse team will take a week off before welcoming Scranton University to Swan Field beginning at 7 p.m.
