Four Named IWLCA All-Metro Region for Women's Lacrosse

Full IWLCA Release

NORTHBOROUGH, Mass. - Haverford women's lacrosse senior attacker Katharine Ference and sophomore midfielder Tiffany Mikulis have picked up first-team All-Metro region designation from the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA),  while senior attacker Sam Silverman and sophomore defender Eva Baumann each garnered inclusion on the All-Metro second team, the coaches' organization announced in a release on Wednesday afternoon.

The 2023 release represents the first season since 2011 that Haverford has placed four members on the All-Region teams and the first time since 1993 with multiple first-team selections.

In total, the IWLCA has honored 256 student-athletes in Division III with a selection to one of the All-Region teams for 2023. These student-athletes are now eligible to be named to a national IWLCA All-American team.

Mikulis, of Hopkinton, Mass. joins Roma Hladky as Midfielder of the Year recipients from the Centennial Conference, as a Haverford athlete earned that honor for the second year in a row. She was a force to be reckoned with, as she is Haverford's single-season draw control leader (91) and ranked within the top five in the conference for goals (63), points (74), ground balls (47), shots on goal (82), and free-position goals (13). Last week, Mikulis was recognized with a third-team USA Lacrosse Magazine All-America selection.

Ference, of Sewickley, Pa, also picked up USA Lacrosse Magazine All-America honors, taking home honorable mention after she proved to be a leader yet again for a young Fords squad, starring as one of the best attackers in the nation over the past two seasons.

Ference made her presence felt as the now two-time All-Region player holds the Haverford career record for draw controls per game (3.9). She was named a First-team All-CC selection on the attack for a second consecutive season, proving to be one of the most vaunted offensive threats in the Centennial Conference. Ference was in the top five in the conference for points (79) and assists (33), while also in the top 10 for goals (46), draw controls (88), and free-position goals (10).

Baumann, of Brookline, Mass. had a breakout sophomore campaign to earn her first All-Region honors. She was a force with 23 caused turnovers and a pair of draw controls. She also added an assist at Dickinson on March 25. She ranked in the top 10 in the conference for caused turnovers.

Silverman, of Catsonville, Md. earned a spot on the second team after a 50-goal senior season. Silverman ranked in the top five in the conference for goals (50), assists (33), and free-position goals (13). Against Washington College on April 5, she couldn't be stopped as couldn't be she led the Fords with seven goals and six assists, establishing the new program record with 13 total points, eclipsing the previous record of 11 which was set by Allie Gibbons during the 2018 campaign.

Haverford finished its season with a 12-6 record, again reaching the Centennial Conference semifinals, rematching with Franklin & Marshall for the third consecutive season.

The Fords will now await the release of the IWLCA All-America teams, which will be released on May 24, 2023.
