CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The 2012 College Squash Association (CSA) championship got underway for Haverford College's women's team Friday morning with the 32nd-ranked Fords dropping an 8-1 decision to No. 25 William Smith College in the opening round of the Epps Cup (D Division).

Caroline Nightingale downed William Smith's Caroline Moxley, 3-0, in the No. 1 spot for the lone victory for Haverford (4-13) which slides into the consolation bracket where it will square off against No. 29 Boston College on Saturday morning. William Smith (8-11) will go up against St. Lawrence University in the other side of the bracket Saturday.

The young Haverford squad put up a fight against an experienced Heron team. Though both lost by 3-0 scores, the Fords' Kira Jones and Alisa Strayer had solid performances.

At No. 3, Jones pushed William Smith's Lucia Rowe who escaped for the victory with winning scores of 11-9, 11-6 and 11-8. Strayer, at No. 6, also put forth a strong performance before falling to Ginny McDermott, 11-8, 12-10, 11-9.
