Season Review: Women's squash captures CSA E Division title

Signature Wins: No. 34 Haverford rallied past 33rd-ranked Tufts University, 6-3, to capture the E Division title at the College Squash Association (CSA) 2013 Women's National Team Championships on Feb. 17. Samara Flug, Miriam Fuchs, Hannah Miller, Bethany Simmonds, Sarah Madigan and Caroline Nightingale earned victories to help the Fords win the second CSA team championship in program history. The regular-seasonsaw Haverford sweep Smith College, 9-0, on Jan. 20. The match showed the young squad's tremendous growth in a year's time as the Fords fell 8-1 to the Pioneers last season. Haverford beat Smith in convincing fashion once again with an 8-1 victory on Feb. 15 to open CSA team championship play.

Season Notes: The Fords' seven wins on the season tied them with the 2002-03 squad for the second most wins in program history … Sophomore Flug, playing primarily at No. 6, led the team with nine wins … Junior Nightingale closed out the season by playing in the CSA individual championships at Trinity College in March. Nightingale competed in the Holleran Cup which is comprised of players ranked 32nd or higher in the national individual rankings … Senior Fuchs capped her career with a five-match winning streak … Senior Miller was recognized by the CSA as the standout player of the E Division at the team championships … Haverford finished 33rd in the final national rankings of the season.

Looking Ahead:  "I expect the large sophomore class to produce great results next season," said head coach Niki Clement. "They have each worked very hard during the season and are extremely motivated to improve which is all I can ask for. The upperclassmen finally have the room to showcase their years of experience in college squash and I think they will compete with a new found confidence that will help them to produce great wins next season."
