Undefeated day for women's squash

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Haverford College women's squash team picked up a pair of wins at Vassar College on Saturday afternoon as the Fords claimed a 9-0 victory over the host Brewers before closing out the undefeated day with a 6-3 win over Northeastern University.

The 32nd-ranked Fords (4-7) were efficient against the hosts as Haverford won eight of the nine matches by 3-0 scores. Emily Berlin, at No. 7, surrendered just eight points to Roxanne Ringer with scores of 11-2, 11-4, 11-2 while Rachael Garnick, playing at No. 8, was just as impressive with an 11-4, 11-2, 11-3 defeat of Margaret Walter.

Sophomore Sarah Madigan was pushed to extra points twice in her match against Carly Scher at No. 3 but Madigan persevered for the 12-10, 11-9, 12-10 victory.

The Fords' impressive effort continued in the neutral-site matchup against 33rd-ranked Northeastern (0-10) as Haverford took down the Huskies for the second time in a week.

Garnick had another strong showing as the freshman made quick work of Asel Primbetova in an 11-2, 11-0, 11-1 victory at No. 8. Isabel Agnew at No. 5, Alyssa Kaden at No. 6, Berlin at No. 7, and Allison Kandel at No. 9 also registered 3-0 wins against Northeastern.

Playing at No. 4, junior Samara Flug captured a 3-1 victory over Helam Ayano to join Agnew, Kaden, Berlin and Garnick with a 2-0 record on the day.

The Fords return to action on Thursday when they travel to Drexel University for a match against the 13th-ranked Dragons beginning at 6 p.m.
