Women's Squash Takes Close Battle Over Dickinson, 5-4

CARLISLE, Pa. – The Haverford College women's squash team took down the Dickinson Red Devils in a close battle, 5-4 on Saturday afternoon.

Freshman Isabelle Gotuaco won a three-game decision (11-9, 11-8, 11-7) over Casey Merbler at the No. 1 ladder position. Junior Bethany Simmonds lost the first game (11-4), but came back to pick up a five-game victory (4-11, 11-9, 11-8, 5-11, 11-8) over Stuart Lemay. Senior Alex Love dropped just 12 points in her victory. Sophomore Isabel Agnew dropped an 11-9 decision before winning three straight (11-6, 11-8, 11-4) over Merrit Davis. Senior Samara Flug found herself down 2-1 after dropping the second game (20-18) and third game (11-9), but rallied with 11-7 and 11-8 wins to score the victory.

Elizabeth Vuchinich took down freshman Grace Fioramonti-Gorchow in five games (4-11, 11-9, 9-11, 11-6, 11-9). Senior Avery Weisel was defeated in three (11-4, 11-2, 11-1) by Freddie Bancroft. Meghan Shippe was victorious over sophomore Emilia Cobbs (11-5, 11-5, 11-8). Junior Sabina Aliev suffered a three game loss (11-2, 11-4, 11-4) to Ashley Dayle.

Haverford improved to 2-2 while Dickinson dropped its first ever varsity squash match. The Fords will take on Rochester, NYU and Fordham at Blair Academy next Saturday. The matches are scheduled to begin at 12:30 p.m.
