Flug Named to Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Team

PHILADELPHIA – Senior Samara Flug of the Haverford College women's squash team was named to the Philadelphia Inquirer's 2014-15 At-Large Academic All-Area Team as released by the Philadelphia Area Sports Information Directors Association (Philly-SIDA). She's the first women's squash player to be named to the team since Jenny Millman during the 2006-07 academic year.

In order to be eligible for Academic All-Area honors, an athlete must be in at least his or her second year at the institution and hold a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 or better. The team is voted on by the sports information offices of the 29 area institutions from the Philadelphia metropolitan area.

Flug had a banner 2014-15 season as she tied her career high with nine victories. Six of her victories were at the No. 5 position while her other three triumphs were at the No. 4 position. The senior had a four-match winning streak (Nov. 15-22) which led to her being named the Harrow Sports Squash Player of the Week (Nov. 19). Flug was also a College Squash Association's Scholar Athlete and finished her career ranked third all-time in wins (23) and sixth in winning percentage (.585).

Penn, Drexel and Haverford had the highest number of student-athletes make the women's All-Area squad, placing two apiece on the 11-person team. Joining Parmacek from Penn is squash standout Anaka Alankamony, while Temple gymnast Lauren Capone and Drexel squash player Kaitlyn Money were repeat selections.

Swarthmore golfer Amanda Beebe, Eastern golfer Kaleigh Borman, Ursinus gymnast Jillian Casarella, Drexel squash player Elisa Money and Haverford College fencer Juliana Petersen rounded out the 2014-15 At-Large team. Parmacek was named Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Women's At-Large Performer of the Year.
