ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Haverford College women's squash team started its 2018-19 season with a pair of victories at the Navy Round Robin, posting back-to-back 9-0 victories over Johns Hopkins and Boston University. The Fords are now 2-0 on the season.

In the first match of the day, the Fords faced off with the Terriers of Boston University. After dispatching the Boston University squad a season ago, the Fords made quick work of their opponent yet again to pull to 2-0 all-time in the series.

Co-captain Kaitlin Reese won in a sweep on the top flight, dispatching Normandie Essig (11-7, 11-3, 11-1). Isabelle Johnson recorded her first career win at the second flight, taking down Cameron Adajian (11-2, 11-4, 11-1), and Maddie Hager swept Rose Zhao at the third position (11-4, 11-2, 11-3). Shreya Singh got the best of her opponent at the fourth flight for her first career win, prevailing in a 11-9, 11-9, 11-5 sweep, while Urgyen Wangmo got the best of Phoebe Olber (11-3, 11-5, 11-8), picking up her first career victory in the process.

Co-captain Sunny Chai swept Shannah Shamrakov (11-8, 11-4, 11-3) at number six, while Hannah Adler made quick work of Julia Hess at the seventh flight (11-6, 11-5, 11-2). Eva Tamkin prevailed in a tough battle with Jackie Loring at number eight, taking a five-game victory with scores of 11-13, 11-7, 11-9, 8-11, 11-8. Stephanie Lukez posted a sweep over Meghana Patana at the ninth position (12-10, 11-5, 11-3).

In the late afternoon matchup with Johns Hopkins, the Fords picked up a similar result as each member of the ladder posted a sweep over their Blue Jay opposition.

Reese took down Charlotte Kim (11-5, 11-7, 11-3), Johnson got the best of Manavi Moniga, surrendering just three total points in an 11-1, 11-1, 11-1 rout. Hager similarly powered past her opponent Anna Sargeantson, surrendering just four total points in an 11-1, 11-2, 11-1 triumph.

Singh swept Allegra Rapoport (11-6, 11-4, 11-8), and Wangmo took down Mary Sulavik (11-4, 11-5, 11-2). Chai allowed just nine total points in a sweep of Emma Paine (11-3, 11-4, 11-2) while Adler similarly had a strong showing against Madison Surmacz (11-5, 11-3, 11-3). Tamkin allowed just eight total points in her sweep of Charlotte Davison (11-3, 11-3, 11-2) and Lukez allowed just seven in her victory over Danmin Liu (11-1, 11-1, 11-5).

Haverford returns to action this week, with the home opener slated for Wednesday afternoon as the Fords take on Swarthmore at 5:30 p.m. at the GIAC Squash Courts.
