Women's Squash Heads to Yale for CSA Team Championships Friday

CSA Women's Team Championships
Epps Cup Bracket

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Haverford College women's squash team (8-7) will open up the 2020 CSA Team Championships on Friday evening on the courts at Yale University. Action will continue through Sunday, February 23 at Yale as well as the satellite location, nearby Hopkins School.

Friday's first-round match will see the Fords go up against No. 28 Colby (5 p.m.), as Haverford looks to avenge a 7-2 loss to the Mules in last season's CSA Team Championships consolation playoffs. The Fords and Mules have not squared off since that meeting, and will be facing off for just the third time since 1998. The Fords, the 29th-ranked team in the nation according to the final regular season CSA Rankings, have been slotted in the Epps Cup or "D Division" for the third consecutive campaign. The Fords have two division titles in program history, with both of those crowns coming in the "E" Division in 2012-13 and 2013-14.

In total, 43 teams will compete across five divisions over three jam-packed days in New Haven. The Epps Cup grouping features the teams ranked from 25th to 32nd in the penultimate national rankings. Those squads include No. 25 Connecticut College, No. 26 St. Lawrence, No. 27 Mount Holyoke, No. 28 Colby, Haverford, No. 30 Georgetown, No. 31 Boston College, and No. 32 Bucknell. Haverford has had a wealth of experience against teams in the grouping this season, most recently dispatching Bucknell at home on back-to-back weekends to begin the month of February. The Fords also hosted No. 27 St. Lawrence in December, a 7-2 win for the Saints, and faced off with Connecticut College at Vassar in November, a 6-3 win for the Camels.

The Fords have benefited from a wealth of senior leadership while some newcomers have also burst on the scene to make an immediate impact. Senior co-captain Kaitlin Reese (9-6) has amassed 40 career victories, the most in program history, appearing at the top two flights this season. Sophia Jackson has also had a standout senior campaign, as she is off to an 11-1 start this year, including an unblemished 4-0 mark at the seventh flight.  First year Caroline Smith comes into the team championships on a six-match winning streak of her own, as she has posted a 10-5 record so far this season, competing mainly at the ninth flight for the Fords. As a team, Haverford has showcased its considerable depth with an impressive 23-7 record at the eighth and ninth flights combined.

New this year, live streaming of all courts and live scores from all the action in the Nutmeg State will be available via the CSA Women's Team Championships central page.
