Fords shine at Haverford Invitational

HAVERFORD, Pa. - The Haverford College women's indoor track team received impressive efforts from up and down its roster Thursday afternoon as it hosted the Haverford Invitational at The Gary Lutnick Tennis & Track Center in Alumni Field House.

Carolyn Oehrig (pictured) established a new career best in the high jump with a mark of 1.55 meters (5 feet, 1 inch) to lead the Haverford effort. The performance tied the third-best mark in the Centennial Conference this season. The sophomore later added a fourth-place finish in the triple jump.

Keri Godbe, Robin Chernow and Allison Guindon also had a strong day in the field events for the Fords as Godbe took third in the long jump with a collegiate-best distance of 4.39m (14-5.00) and Chernow's throw of 11.32m (37-01.75) was good for first in the shot put. Guindon added a second in the pole vault by clearing 2.50m (8-02.50).

Nora Weathers and Emily Scott went 1-2 in the 3,000 meter run to highlight the Haverford showing on the track. Participating in her second collegiate track meet, Weathers registered the sixth-best time in the 3,000m in the Centennial this season with a time of 10 minutes, 35.76 seconds.

Claiming another first-place finish for the Fords, Katie Balmer's career-best finish of 5:15.93 in the mile stands fifth on the conference performance list. Kara McMahon and Andrea Tocci also ran well in the mile as they finished in third and fourth, respectively.

Erin Seglem also had a solid afternoon as her season-best time of 2:26.18 was good for first in the 800 meter run.

Jennifer Whealdon added another top-three finish for Haverford in the 400 with a season-best effort of 1:05.67.

The Fords will remain home for their next outing as they host the Seamus McElligott Meet at Alumni Field House on Saturday, Feb. 2.
