Women's track hosts Holiday Meet

HAVERFORD, Pa. - The Haverford College women's indoor track & field team received an array of strong performances from up and down the roster as the Fords closed out the first-semester slate by hosting the Haverford Holiday Invitational at the Gary Lutnick Tennis & Track Center in Alumni Field House on Saturday afternoon.

Freshman Brittany Steele was ready to go in her first collegiate meet as she finished first in the 200-meter dash with a time of 27.47 seconds that ranks as the 10th-best performance in program history. Junior Carolyn Oehrig and freshman Yue Xiang placed second and third, respectively, as the Fords took the top three spots in the race.

Steele also registered a third-place finish in the 60-meter dash as she came within five-tenths of a second of matching the program mark in the event established by Christina Neilson in 2011. Steele's time currently ranks 12th nationally on the Division III performance list.

Oehrig and Xiang went 1-2 in the 60-meter hurdles as Oehrig's time of 10.21 was over a second and a half better than her previous career best. Oehrig capped a busy day with a third place in the high jump.

Junior Sedona Murphy added another first place for Haverford in the 400 with a time of 1 minute, 6.34 seconds, while senior Stephanie Kahn finished fourth.

Junior Katherine Greifeld came in third in the 800 while sophomore Molly Allen's career-best time of 5:32.88 was good for fourth in the mile. The Fords' added another top finish with a second-place showing in the 4x400 relay.

The 5,000 saw senior Flora Berklein (pictured) take almost 10 seconds off her career best as her second-place finish of 18:14.94 ranks as the 10th-best time in program history.

Haverford also had a solid day off the track as freshman Elizabeth Reikowski finished first in the triple jump with a distance of 9.77 meters (32 feet, 0.75 inches). Reikowski placed second in the long jump with junior Kimberly Haughton taking first with a mark of 4.51m (14-9.75).

The Fords get back into action on January 18 when they travel to New York City for the NYU Invitational.
