Strong showing for women's track at Haverford Invitational

HAVERFORD, Pa. - The Haverford College women's track & field team registered a strong showing on Saturday afternoon during the Haverford Invitational at the Gary Lutnick Tennis & Track Center in Alumni Field House.

Outside snow was falling but inside Brittany Steele's hot start to her collegiate career continued as the freshman finished second in the 60-meter dash with a time of 8.11 seconds. Steele's impressive day included an additional second-place finish in the 200 as she crossed the line in 26.90. Steele's time in the 200 currently sits second on the Centennial Conference performance list.

Also running well on Saturday was senior Emily Scott who placed seventh in the 3,000 with a career-best time of 10 minutes, 28.81 seconds. Scott's time was almost 11 seconds better than her previous personal best and currently ranks eighth among conference performances this season. Sophomore Maggie Heffernan placed in the top half of the field in the 3,000 with a ninth-place finish (10:37.58).

Senior Erin Seglem registered a career-best time of 1 minute, 4.11 seconds to place ninth in the 400 while junior Katherine Greifeld also came up with a career-best performance of 1:05.10 to finish 12th.

Sophomore Nora Weathers delivered another top-10 finish for the Fords in the mile as she placed 10th in 5:20.90. Freshman Clarice Bourland's time of 5:24.98 was good for 11th.

Greifeld, Seglem and Weathers joined forces with junior Katie Balmer to finish fourth in the 4x400 relay.

Freshman Elizabeth Reikowski was busy off the track as she placed fifth in the triple jump and 13th in the long jump. Junior Kimberly Haughton finished 10th in the long jump with a mark of 4.73 meters (15 feet, 6.25 inches).

Haverford's season continues next Saturday at Tufts University.
