Weathers takes 1st in mile at McElligott Invite

HAVERFORD, Pa. - Sophomore Nora Weather's first-place finish in the mile highlighted an impressive day for the Haverford College women's indoor track & field team as it hosted the Seamus McElligott Invitational on Saturday afternoon at the Gary Lutnick Tennis & Track Center in Alumni Field House.

Weathers' career-best time of 5 minutes, 15.45 seconds currently ranks eighth among Centennial Conference performances this season. Freshman Clarice Bourland and sophomore Molly Allen also delivered career-best times as they finished in third (5:23.46) and sixth (5:32.05), respectively.

The Fords also placed three in the top 10 in the 800-meter run as senior Emily Scott's time of 2:24.61 was good enough for fifth. Juniors Katherine Greifeld and Katie Balmer followed in sixth (2:25.74) and seventh (2:27.85), respectively, with season-best times. Scott's time currently resides in 10th on the Centennial performance list.

Senior Erin Seglem also ran well on Saturday as she finished second in the 400m with a career-best time of 1:01.75. Seglem's time ranks fifth among conference performances this season.

Freshman Brittany Steele continued to burn up the track with a runner-up time of 8.05 seconds in the 60-meter dash and a third-place time of 26.94 in the 200.

Seniors Bridget Freeley and Chelsea Thorsheim finished in the top 15 of the 5,000m field.

Haverford's relay squads had a strong day as the Fords took second in both the 4x200 and 4x800. The 4x200 quartet registered a time of 1:52.35 which currently ranks second on the conference performance list.

Haverford will be busy next weekend as the Fords take part in the Ursinus (College) Open on Friday before heading to Massachusetts on Saturday for the Tufts (University) Cupid Challenge.
