Women's Indoor Competes at Historic 168th Street Armory

NEW YORK – Competing in the New York City Gotham Cup at the 168th Street Armory, the Haverford College women's indoor track & field team had one individual etch her name into the school's record book with a top 10 time in program history, while two other runners and one relay team posted times that are currently ranked in the top 10 in the country as of press time in the very early going portion of the season.

Sprinter Mairead Ferry had a very busy day on the track as she competed in three events. Her signature event came in the 60 meter hurdles when she crossed the line in a time of 9.93. Ferry's time makes her the fifth quickest individual in program history in the event. Ferry also ran in the 60 meters (8.55) and 200 meters (28.04). Brittany Steele also ran in the 60 and 200 meters. Steele finished in 8.21 in the 60 meters. The school record holder in that event, posted a time that has only been bested by one other individual in program history. Steele finished in 27.92 during the 200 meters.

Highlighting the distance races was a fourth-place finish from Kelley Riffenburgh in 5,000 meters (18:24.97), while Nora Weathers placed 10th overall in the 3,000 meters (10:28.86). As of press time, Riffenburgh's time ranked her ninth in the country in the event. She is ranked ninth in program history in the event. Weathers' mark just missed a top 10 time in program history. That mark is currently 10th in division III at press time. Maggie Heffernan also placed ninth overall in the 5,000 meters (19:08.54), while Amelia Keyser-Gibson finished in 11:17.21 during the 5,000 meters.

In the field events, freshman Claire Sargent continued her solid start to her rookie campaign with a shot put throw of 10.78 meters (32-11.25). Sargent is currently ranked fifth in program history in this event. Also in the field, Elizabeth Reikowski finished 29th overall in the triple jump with a leap of 10.04 meters (32-11.25).

In the middle distance, Katherine Greifeld (2:24.76) and Katie Balmer (2:27.89) placed 34th and 50th in the 800 meters, respectively. Those times currently rank 22nd and 39th overall in the country for the indoor season at the time of this release. Nicole Giannetti also turned in a 66th place finish in the event with a time of 2:31.73. Yue Xiang was Haverford's top finisher in the 400 meters with a time of 1:06.20, while Amy Zamora finished in 1:08.44. Zamora also competed in the 60 meter hurdles, finishing 75th overall with a time of 11.61 seconds.

In the mile, Katie Sullivan added another top 25 mark in the country as she placed 25th overall with a time of 5:19.72. That mark currently ranks her 21st in division III. MaryKate Cavanaugh also ran this event, finishing in 5:51.91. Haverford wrapped up its day in the distance medley relay. That quadrant of runners finished in 12:59.65, the fourth fastest relay in the country out of 14 institutions that he entered the event in division III this season.

The Fords will return to the track next weekend at the Princeton Invitational. That meet is slated for an 11 a.m. start next Saturday, January 24.
