HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College women's indoor track & field team enjoyed a highly successful evening inside the Alumni Field House on Monday as part of its meet with Bryn Mawr, Widener, and Stevens. The Fords won eight of the 11 events in which they are entered an individual. However, the headline event was a record-breaking performance by the distance medley relay.
The DMR team of Amelia Keyser-Gibson, Kerry Quigley, Katie Sullivan, and Nora Weathers broke the school record as it crossed the finish line in a time of 12:06.31. Monday's time broke the previous school record set two years ago by Katie Balmer '15, Cara Keifer '13, Weathers, and Fiona Hendry '16 with a mark of 12:09.79. The Fords' DMR time ranks them seventh nationally with just one week to go before conference championships get underway.
Quigley's successful night also carried over to the field events as the Fords' freshman won the long jump with a leap of 4.72 meters (15'6"). Classmate Emily Williams was second in that event with a jump of 4.20 meters. The Fords also had a one, two finish in the triple jump as Elizabeth Reikowski finished first with a jump of 10.45 meters (34'3.5"), while Grace Mathis was second at 9.73 meters. In addition to her triple jump win, Reikowski was also the team's top finisher in the 400 meters.
Rounding out the field events, Claire Sargent won the shot put for the fourth time during this indoor season. Tonight's furthest throw traveled 11.82 meters (38'9.5").
Haverford also swept the top two spots in four events on the track. Brittany Steele was a double winner in the only events she competed in on Monday. Steele won both the 60 meters (8.06 seconds) and 200 meters (26.88 seconds).
Taylor Murphy finished second to Steele in both of those sprints with times of 8.18 seconds in the 60 meters and 27.26 seconds in the 200 meters. She picked up her win in the 60 meter hurdles when she crossed the line in a time of 9.77 seconds. She beat out Tess Oberholtzer, who was also fourth in the 200 meters, for the top spot in the hurdles.
Sarah Wade won the 800 meters in what was a sweep of the top four positions for Haverford. Her time of 2:30.13 was followed to the line by Sophie Drew, Liana Alves, and Alison Love. Maggie Heffernan finished second in the mile with a time of 5:20.26. She was topped only by former teammate Kelley Riffenburgh '15.
Women's indoor track & field will be back at home this Saturday for the Keogh Invitational. That meet will be the team's final competition before the Centennial Conference Championships at Ursinus that will be contested on February 27 and 28.
