COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. - The Haverford College women's indoor track & field team found great success in the distance events at the Collegeville Classic hosted by Ursinus College on Saturday. That meet was held at the same facility where the Fords will return in just over a month for the Centennial Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships.
Nicole Giannetti won the 3,000 meter event for the Fords as she crossed the line in a time of 10:25.11 to beat out her closest competitor by over three seconds. Abigail Doroshow was fourth in the event with a time of 11:02.33. Haverford also placed three runners in the top five of the mile run with Katie Sullivan (5:15.30), Amelia Keyser-Gibson (5:26.18), and Sarah Wade (5:33.42) placing second, fourth, and fifth. MaryKate Cavanaugh was 10th in that event with a time of 5:41.83.
Haverford also got three scoring performances in the 5,000 meters. Sophie Drew headlined that trio with a third place showing in a time of 19:08.19, while Mckenna Krall (20:33.83) and Allison Hacker (21:03.54) were seventh and eighth. The 4x400 relay team of Kathryn Correia, Keyser-Gibson, Wade, and Sullivan also placed 10th at the meet after their individual events.
In the sprints, Taylor Murphy made the finals of the 60 meter hurdles with a mark of 9.61 seconds. Following a fourth place finish in the heats, the sophomore shaved another tenth of a second off her time in the finals to finish runner-up in the event. Murphy was also 12th in the 60 meter dash with Marissa Antinori leading a pair of entrants in the 200 meters with her time of 28.17. In the middle distance, Jolie Jaycobs led a trio of runners in the 800 meters with a 14th place finish in a time of 2:36.06.
The Fords also got fourth place finishes in the shot put and triple jump from Claire Sargent and Elizabeth Reikowski. Sargent's best toss went 11.62 meters, while Reikowski's best leap was measured at 10.27 meters. Haverford got top 10 finishes from Grace Mathis (2.70 meters, pole vault) and Antinori (4.60 meters, long jump).
Haverford will compete in two meets next weekend. Some individuals will head to Ocean Breeze, N.Y. for the Villanova Open, while the rest of the team will compete at the Widener Field Meet. Both meets will get underway on Friday, January 27 at 4 p.m.
