Women's Track & Field Opens 2018 Portion of Season

OCEAN BREEZE, N.Y. – The Haverford College women's indoor track & field team opened the 2018 portion of its schedule with four seniors competing at Staten Island during the 2018 Great Dane Classic.

Amelia Keyser-Gibson recorded a personal best time of 10:15.34 in the 3,000 meters to cap the day in impressive fashion for the Fords. The senior trimmed over a second and a half off of her previous best time in the event which was set last February. In doing so, she further solidified her position as the fifth fastest runner in school history for that event. She was fourth in her heat and 14th overall in the field.

Claire Sargent competed in the shot put and weight throw. The school record holder in both events, Sargent turned in Haverford's best overall finish of the day with a 13th place showing in the shot put. Her best throw was marked at 11.59 meters. Her best weight throw of 10.18 meters ranked her 24th in that event.

Nicole Giannetti and Katie Sullivan also contested the mile. Competing in the same heat, Giannetti placed was fifth in the section with a time of 5:14.84. Sullivan placed ninth in that heat with a time of 5:17.99. Those times ranked the teammates 14th and 24th, respectively, in the final event standings.

Women's indoor track & field will return to competition next Saturday at the Ursinus Invitational which is set to get underway at 10 a.m. Ursinus will also be the same site the Fords will visit later for the Centennial Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships.
