Women’s Track & Field Post Strong Showing In Final Tune-Up for CC Championships

HAVERFORD, Pa. - The Haverford College women's track & field team hosted the Keogh Invitational Saturday inside the Alumni Field House, finishing fourth overall with a total of 93 points. The meet was the final home meet of the 2023-24 season and the final tune-up before the Centennial Conference Championships.

In the 60 meter dash, the Fords had two competitors race in the sprint, with Nadine Tang and Adriana Cruz-Soto both competing. Tang bolted to a sixth-place finish, earning three points, with a time of 8.44, narrowly securing a new personal best in the event. Cruz-Soto was able to grab ninth place with a time of 8.71 in the race.

In the 200 meters, the Scarlet and Black claimed another sixth-place finish, adding three more points to the board, as Shahla Mukhtar cruised to a time of 29.20, a new personal best for the senior. Her teammate Rachel November, picked up 16th place in the dash, running to a time of 31.24.

Isabel Thornberry helped the Fords add 10 more points to the scoreboard, with a first place finish in the 400 meter, earning a new personal best with a time of 59.62. The blazing time for Thornberry slots into fourth-best in school history.

Thornberry wasn't the only competitor in the 400 meters, as November grabbed seventh place in the event to add two more points to the Haverford score. The Belmont, Mass. native finished the event with a time of 1:08.76. Her teammate Maya Holmes placed 10th with a time of 1:12.42, competing in the 400 meter for the first time in her career. 

The Scarlet and Black made quite a statement in the 800 meters, as two Haverford runners placed first and second in the competition. Savannah Shaw earned another 10 points for the Fords, darting to a time of 2:24.12, a new personal best, to earn first prize. Right behind Shaw was teammate Dominique Monroy who took home second place, finishing with a time of 2:28.32, to add eight more points to the Haverford total.

The pair was joined by teammate Jessie Hausman, who absolutely crushed a new personal best in the 800 meter, completing the race in ninth place with a time of 2:35.24. The time earned by Hausman was 7.33 faster than her previous best. The fourth entrant in the 800 meter for the Fords was Sophia Furman, who pulled into 16th place with a time of 2:43.30.

Over at the mile, Carly Priest smashed a new personal best in the event, completing the trek in 5:46.05 to earn seventh place and three more points for the Scarlet and Black. The new time earned by Priest is six seconds better than her previous record in the event.

Priest was not the only one to significantly earn a new personal best in the mile, as teammate Theresa Haupt shaved off 7.32 seconds to finish the mile in 13th place with a time of 6:00.56. Poppy Chrisman crossed the finish line tenth with a time of 5:54.90, while Judy Xie placed 21st with a time of 6:38.09

The Scarlet and Black were represented in the 3,000 meter by a first-year duo of Grace Chen and Claire Parsons. Chen added eight more points to the board for Haverford, finishing the treacherous 3,000 meters in third place with a time of 11:30.78. Parsons bolstered the Fords score by another three points, claiming seventh place in the event with a time of 13:15.68, a new personal best.

Audrey Carter was the lone participant in the 5,000 meters for the Fords, as the sophomore finished in third with a time of 21:40, adding an additional three points to the Haverford score. 

Summer Ryan competed in the high jump for the Scarlet and Black, clearing a height of 1.32 meters (4 feet, 4 inches) to secure fourth place and add five points to the Haverford score. 

In the long jump, Grace Hannigan jumped out to a distance of 4.54 meters (14 feet, 10 and three quarter inches) to finish ninth overall. 

Hannigan also competed in the triple jump, where the first-year hopped 9.94 meters (32 feet, 7-and-a-half inches), slotting into fifth place overall and putting up four more points for the Fords.

Alice Creed had a successful day in the pole vault, earning second place and eight more points for the Fords, clearing a distance of 2.75 meters (9 feet and a quarter inch).

At the throwing pit, two Haverford competitors competed in the shot put, as Ryan obtained a new personal best, launching the shot put 7.98 meters (26 feet, 2 inches) to place 11th. Her teammate Rachita Kumar also eclipsed a new personal best, tossing the shot put 20 feet, 10 inches to take home 18th overall. 

In the 4x200 meter relay, the Scarlet and Black crossed the finish line in first place (scoring 10 more points for Haverford), as the team of Anna Berry, Tang, Cruz-Soto, and Olvia D'Aulerio, sprinted to a 1:50.34 finish.

The Scarlet and Black also notched first place in the 4X400 meter relay, as the team of D'Aulerio, Berry, Hausman, and Thornberry rushed to a time of  4:16.36.

Next up for the Fords is a trip to Lancaster, Pa. for the Centennial Conference Championships on Saturday, February 24, at 10:30 a.m. The host of the event is Franklin & Marshall.
