STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. - The Haverford College women's indoor track & field team began its two-meet weekend with the Fastrack National Invitational on Friday afternoon. The esteemed meet that comprised of many schools from all three NCAA divisions along the East Coast, was held at the renowned Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex on Staten Island.
The day was highlighted by Nadine Tang, who dashed to a time of 8.24, to place 10th. Achieving a new personal best by .8 seconds, Tang cracked the top-10 all-time in Haverford history. The sophomore then shifted over to the crowded 200 meter field, as Tang sped to a time of 27.52, to notch 47th. The speedy time also marks a new personal best for the sprinter.
The 5,000 meter began the day at the Ocean Breeze Complex, as Grace Chen was the lone Haverford representative in the race. The sophomore took home fifth place in the event, achieving a new personal best with a time of 18:48.67.
Over at the 3,000 meter run, Krysta Nichols repped Haverford, by placing 52nd with a time of 11:07.46. The senior was able to smash her previous personal best in the run by more than eight seconds.
It was Anastasia Jaycobs who led the Haverford contingent in the mile, crossing the finish line with a time of 5:21.26 for 28th place, beating her previous personal best by just over 13 seconds. Dominique La Grenade placed 40th with a time of 5:25.52, also earning a new personal best. Rounding out the quartet of Fords was the duo of Jessie Hausman, who raced to a time of 5:44.03, a new personal best, and Savannah Shaw, who claimed a time of 5:44.41, to finish 62nd and 63rd respectively.
Two competitors represented Haverford in the 800 meters, as Alice Sappenfield earned 54th place with a time of 2:28.85, while Carly Priest grabbed 66th place with a 2:31.37 finish.
In the sand, sophomore Grace Hannigan jumped a distance of 4.75 meters (15 feet, 7 inches) to capture 16th place. She was joined by rookie Zofi Sanders, who soared to a distance of 4.17 meters (13 feet, 8.25 meters), to finish 24th. The distance lept by Sanders marks a new personal best for the first-year.
The two-event weekend will continue for women's indoor track & field on Saturday, February 8, as the Fords will travel to Collegeville, Pa. for the Frank Colden Invitational inside the Floy Lewis Bakes Center on the campus of Ursinus College, with action beginning at 9 a.m.
