Sarah Wilcher Named All-Metro Region for Weight Throw

Full USTFCCCA Release

NEW ORLEANS - Haverford College junior Sarah Wilcher was named to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Metro Region team for the indoor weight throw, the organization announced in a release on Wednesday afternoon.

All-Region designation is given to student-athletes who rank within the top five marks for an individual event, according to the final descending order list in their respective regions. Runners who are part of relays that finish within the top three in the region are also designated as All-Region athletes. The regions used for this award – East, Great Lakes, Metro, Mid-Atlantic, Mideast, Midwest, Niagara, North, South, and West – match those used during the cross country season.

Wilcher earns All-Region after her record-breaking performance in the weight throw at the Centennial Conference Indoor Championships. Seeded 11th entering the event, Wilcher unleashed a throw of 52 feet, 2 inches—shattering the previous Haverford program record of 46-4.25, set by Unique Tuberville '20. The silver-medal performance helped the Fords to a strong start on the opening day of competition at Franklin & Marshall.

This is the first All-Region honor for Wilcher, who also picked up second-team All-CC honors after the record-shattering toss, in addition to a Centennial Conference title in the outdoor hammer throw a season ago.
