Volleyball wins 4th straight

NEW YORK - The Haverford College volleyball team rallied from a one-set deficit to take down North Park University, 3-1, Friday night on the opening day of New York University's Violet Classic.

Undeterred by dropping the opening set by a narrow margin (23-25), the Fords (8-2) stormed back to take the next three (25-18, 25-22, 25-21) and register their fourth consecutive victory.

Haverford opened up a 5-0 lead in set two and never looked back to tie the match at 1-1. Trailing 18-13 in set three, the Fords tallied the next seven points to gain a lead they lead they would never relinquish. Emily Mills, Olivia Coburn-Flynn and Keri Godbe registered kills in the tide-turning offensive spurt.

Demonstrating perseverance once again in set four, Haveford faced an early 12-9 deficit but dug deep to go ahead 13-12 and take control of the match.

Turning up the defense as the match wore on, the Fords limited the Vikings (4-8) to a .167 attack percentage overall. Freshman Nina Mutty was active with 24 digs while sophomore Madison Fuelling contributed 18. Godbe and Sarah Brody chipped in with 10 apiece.
