Volleyball falls to Gettysburg

GETTYSBURG, Pa. - The Haverford College volleyball team suffered its first Centennial Conference loss of the season with a 3-1 loss to host Gettysburg College Saturday afternoon. Later in the day, the Fords also fell 3-1 to Elizabethtown College in non-conference action.

Haverford (11-4, 2-1 CC) saw its seven-match winning streak come to an end at the hands of the Bullets (11-7, 3-1). The Fords came out strong and claimed set one (25-14) before Gettysburg edged Haverford in the remaining sets (22-25, 19-25, 23-25) of the closely-contested match-up.

The Fords registered an impressive .333 attack percentage in set one with just one attack error and finished with a .216 attack percentage overall. Freshman Meg O'Day tallied 10 kills while senior Emily Mills and freshman Keri Godbe each contributed nine. Freshman Olivia Walsh added 32 assists.

Godbe also did her part defensively as she accumulated 20 digs while sophomore Madison Fuelling chipped in with 11. Freshman Nina Mutty helped out with three block assists.

Courtney Cyr paced the Bullets with 11 kills and Katie Wilson had a team-high 16 digs.

In the second match of the day, Haverford dropped the first two sets (24-26, 13-25) before digging deep to capture set three (25-19). The Blue Jays (15-3) squeaked out the match victory with a narrow set-four win (22-25).

O'Day and Godbe led the offense once again in kills with 16 and 10, respectively. Jordan Scolaro delivered five service aces and Walsh was solid with 31 assists.

Fuelling spearheaded the defensive effort with 21 digs while Godbe chipped in with 11. Mills and O'Day each had three block assists.

Elizabethtown's Carolyn Lukiewski took match-high honors with 29 digs.

Looking to get back on track, the Fords travel to Ursinus College on Wednesday night for a 7 p.m. Centennial contest.
