Volleyball turns back McDaniel, 3-0

HAVERFORD, Pa. - The Haverford College volleyball team continued to solidify its position as a Centennial Conference contender as it swept visiting McDaniel College, 3-0, Wednesday night at Gooding Arena.

The Fords (14-5, 5-1 CC) remained in a tie for first place in the conference as they rolled past the Green Terror (5-17, 0-6) in three sets (25-16, 25-17, 25-17).

Freshman Meg O'Day led the attack with 15 kills and an impressive .464 attack percentage on the night. Chipping in with 10 kills, senior Olivia Coburn-Flynn registered a season-high .643 attack percentage (one error in 14 total attacks). Olivia Walsh spearheaded the offense with 33 assists. Haverford was especially efficient in set two as it tallied a .343 attack percentage overall.

Nina Mutty (17), Sarah Brody (10) and Keri Godbe (10) all reached double figures in digs to lead a sound defensive effort that held McDaniel to a slim .036 attack percentage. Kloe Martin paced the Green Terror with 10 kills and 18 digs.

The victory enabled Haverford to equal its win total from 2011 with 10 contests still remaining in the regular season.

A big test awaits the Fords on Saturday as Johns Hopkins University--one of the other two teams in the Centennial with just one conference loss--comes to Gooding Arena. The contest against the Blue Jays begins at noon.  Later in the afternoon, Haverford will celebrate Senior Day prior to a 4 p.m. non-conference match-up against York (Pa.) College.
