O'Day helps Fords make quick work of Cavaliers in Main Line battle

HAVERFORD, Pa. - Freshman Meg O'Day tallied 16 kills to lead a potent attack as the Haverford College volleyball team rolled past visiting Cabrini College, 3-0, Wednesday night in a non-conference contest at Gooding Arena.

The Fords (16-6) and Cavaliers (15-6) battled from the onset of the match as set one remained tight down to the wire. With the score tied at 21-21, Haverford registered four of the remaining five points of the opening set as senior Emilly Mills delivered back-to-back kills and freshmen Nina Mutty and Keri Godbe contributed one each to deliver the 25-22 victory.

Mutty's efficient service game helped the Fords gradually pull away from Cabrini in set two as a 12-12 deadlock became an 18-13 advantage with Mutty on the service line. Consecutive kills by Emily Mills and Mutty clinched a 25-17 set-two victory.

Looking to close out the match, Haverford jumped out to a 16-9 advantage in the third set before the Cavaliers rallied to tie the score at 20-20. O'Day would not be denied as she accounted for four of the Fords' final seven points of the night as they persevered for a 27-25 victory.

O'Day finished with a sizzling .652 attack percentage overall (one error in 23 total attacks)--the third-best single-match attack percentage in program history. Godbe chipped in with 13 kills and Olivia Walsh contributed 38 assists as Haverford posted a .374 attack percentage for the match.

Madison Fuelling took match-high honors with 16 digs as the Fords kept the Cabrini offense in check (.139 attack percentage). Also active on defense, Godbe helped the cause with 13 digs.

Danielle Carrozza paced the Cavaliers with 14 kills and tied for team-high honors with 13 digs.

Next up for Haverford is a weekend trip to Illinois as the Fords begin play in the Elmhurst College Invitational on Friday with a 2 p.m. match-up against Vassar College.
