LANCASTER, Pa. - Three players from the Haverford College volleyball team earned plaudits from around the Centennial Conference for their part in helping the Fords qualify for their 13th consecutive trip to the conference semifinals this season. Freshman Meg O'Day merited first-team all-conference honors while freshman Keri Godbe and senior Emily Mills received honorable mention recognition as the 2012 all-conference team was announced by the league office Wednesday morning.
O'Day (pictured, on right), the 11th freshman in Centennial history to be named to the first team, led the conference in hitting percentage (.345) and ranked fifth in kills (3.08 per set). Her .345 hitting percentage stands second overall in Haverford program history. The middle hitter registered double digits in kills in 19 of the Fords' 31 matches of the 2012 campaign to surpass 300 on the year (342). O'Day also finished second on the squad in total blocks with 64 as her 54 block assists on the season ranks among the top-10 single-season efforts in Fords' history.
Earning honorable mention recognition, Godbe (330) joined O'Day in eclipsing 300 kills on the season. Finishing the season ranked ninth in the Centennial in kills (2.97 per set) and 10th in points (3.43 per set), Godbe (pictured, middle) tallied double figures in kills 18 times. Ranked third on the team in digs (3.14 per set), Godbe also registered 14 double-double outings in kills and digs. The outside hitter also contributed 34 service aces which was good for second on the squad.
Also meriting an honorable mention nod, senior Mills (pictured, on left) provided reliable veteran play from the right side. Mills posted a career-high 49 blocks and 212 kills in her final season while ranking among the conference leaders in hitting percentage (.257). Her sterling effort on the attack (11 kills, 1 error, 17 total attacks, .588 hitting percentage) against Gettysburg in the opening round of the conference tournament helped the Fords (21-10) roll into the semifinals.
O'Day and Godbe are two of eight total freshmen voted to the All-Centennial teams this season by the conference coaches. Freshman Jasmine Warmington of Johns Hopkins earned the dual distinction of rookie of the year and player of the year while Mary Kate Boland was voted coach of the year by her peers.
