Volleyball Wins Eighth Consecutive Home Match with Win over Bryn Mawr

HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College volleyball team won its eighth consecutive home match by taking down the Bryn Mawr College Owls 3-2 (25-15, 19-25, 25-20, 25-20, 15-8) on Wednesday night at the Gooding '84 Arena.

With the Fords ahead 13-10 in the first set, the home team scored six of the next nine points to take a 19-13 advantage and put the set out of reach. The Owls had five errors and only had a .054 attack percentage.

The second set was evenly played with no team having a lead of more than three until the score was tied at 19. The first 38 points of the set featured 11 ties and 11 lead changes. The Fords ended the set with four errors which led to the Owls taking the final six points.

Haverford jumped in front during set three, 15-11, but the Owls responded with five straight points to take their first lead since the score was 2-1. The two teams exchanged points before the visitors tallied five of the final six points to take the set. During the two sets that the Owls won, the Fords had 12 errors and managed just a .057 attack percentage.

Both teams held leads early in the fourth set, but with the score tied at 17, the Fords rallied with three consecutive points to hold a 20-17 advantage. Haverford kept Bryn Mawr at bay for the rest of the fourth set and sent the match to a deciding fifth stanza. Junior Keri Godbe led the way for the Fords with eight kills and two service aces in the set.

The Fords scored 11 of the final 14 points in set five to win their seventh Centennial Conference match of the season. Godbe had six kills in the set and 14 in the final two sets to pace the Fords in the comeback.

Godbe had a season-high 24 kills and four services aces while registering her 15th double-double of the year. The junior has recorded three straight double-doubles. Junior Jeanna Kenney had a team-high 18 kills while freshman Zoe Wong tallied a team-high 23 assists. Freshman Meagan MacPhee tied her career-high with six kills and set new career-highs with two solo blocks and four block assists in the win.

Rachel Ofili had 23 kills for the Owls. Danielle Preziuso had a match-high 40 digs while Allie Nagelski also recorded a match-high with 21 digs in the loss.

The volleyball team improved its record to 17-8 and 7-1 in the Centennial Conference while the Owls fell to 10-13 overall and 1-7 in the conference.  With Swarthmore taking down Muhlenberg tonight, Haverford is in sole possession of second place in the Centennial Conference. The seniors will be honored before the Elizabethtown and Keane tri-match on Saturday at the Gooding '84 Arena. The tri-match is scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m.
