HUNTINGDON, Pa. – The Haverford College volleyball team took on a tough test in the No. 2 Juniata College Eagles, but lost 3-1 (25-21, 25-21, 18-25, 25-12) at Memorial Gym on Friday night.

Juniata is 22-1 on the season while Haverford dropped to 13-7 this year. The Fords are one of only 10 teams this season to take a set against the Eagles. Senior Keri Godbe led visitors with a match-high 18 kills. Senior Jeanna Kenney also had a match-high 14 digs in the loss.

After falling behind in the first set, Haverford remained within striking distance of Juniata before tying the match at 20-all. A service error and two aces by the Eagles' Megan Moroney put the home team ahead, 23-20, leading to a Fords' timeout. Following the stoppage, senior Olivia Walsh had a kill, but that wasn't enough as the Fords fell 25-21.

The second set was a tight battle with eight lead changes and seven ties. Tied at 16, the Eagles tallied seven of nine to jump in front, 23-17. Haverford fought off two set points, but dropped the set, 25-21.

The Fords recorded a 9-5 advantage to begin the third set which caused an Eagles' timeout. Juniata slowed momentum, cutting its deficit to two at 12-10, but Haverford answered with a 7-0 spurt. The No. 2 team in the country made one more push to get within four (20-16), but Haverford kept its distance and took the set (25-18). Juniata finished off the match in set four with a 25-12 victory.

Head coach Michele Benoit's team gets back at it tomorrow with a tri-match at Westminster (Pa.). The Fords will take on Thomas More (1 p.m.)  and Westminster (3 p.m.) for the first time in program history. Haverford continues Centennial Conference play on Monday vs. Ursinus at the Gooding '84 Arena (7 p.m.).
