Ola, Lisboa! Volleyball In Portugal: Day 1 Blog

Ola, Lisboa! Volleyball In Portugal: Day 1 Blog

Hey everyone! It's Isabel (Izzy) Schwam and Claire Nicholas here recapping the volleyball team's first day in Portugal!

After we landed this morning, our team took a walking tour of Lisbon. The city is extremely beautiful, with photo opportunities on every corner. Our first stop was Parque Eduardo VII, which had an amazing view of the Tagus River!

We had a team lunch which included some paella and Portuguese codfish, and of course a round of cappuccinos to revive us from our overnight flight!

Our tour guide taught us some Portuguese words, as well as a lot of the history behind the people and places of Lisbon. We stopped by the beautiful Jerónimos Monastery, tried Pasteis de Nata (custard tarts), ate at a famous pastry shop in Belém, and took some pictures in front of the Belém Tower on the water. We also climbed to the top of the Padrão dos Descobrimentos (The Monument of Discoveries), and had an incredible view of the city.

We are so excited to play some volleyball tomorrow and to continue sightseeing in this beautiful country! Go Fords!
