Fencing Goes Unbeaten at Tri-Co Invitational

HAVERFORD, Pa. – Both the Haverford College men’s and women’s fencing teams successfully defended their home turfs over the weekend against Swarthmore, Bryn Mawr and Drexel. Hosting the Tri-Co Invitational, the Fords were a perfect 2-0 on both the men’s and women’s sides.

Host Haverford faced off against rival Swarthmore In the opening round. Starting with the sabre, the Haverford women were undefeated at 9-0, while the men dropped only one to win 8-1. Both squad’s epee teams emerged with 7-2 victories in that weapon. The women made it three weapon victories with a 7-2 win in foil, while the men were edged out 5-4.

In the afternoon rounds, the Haverford men's fencing team triumphed over Drexel with ease, 23-4, while the women also trounced Bryn Mawr, 21-6. On the day, the women's sabre squad led the way, as it went undefeated during the entire tournament with an 18-0 mark overall.

Both the men’s and women’s fencing teams will break from competition over the holiday season. The fencers will next compete at the Penn State Invitational in State College on Saturday, January 17.
