Nicky Miranda ’14 was named Haverford College’s Fitness Center Director/Head Strength & Conditioning Coach in July of 2019. Miranda returned to Haverford in his current position after spending two years at Fairleigh Dickinson University, rising to head strength & conditioning coach during that time.

In addition to his responsibilities with Haverford College’s 23 varsity athletic teams, Miranda works specifically with Office of Academic Resources on the Healthy Mind, Healthy Body program which educates the entire Haverford College community regarding mental, physical, and general health. Miranda will also oversee the Joe Schwartz ’83 3K Run/Walk while additionally teaching courses within the physical education curriculum.

“I am very excited to once again be a part of the outstanding Haverford community. I am excited to grow upon the standard of excellence that Cory Walts, Nat Ballenberg, and Jackie Cox have already established in the strength & conditioning department. I look forward to continuing to make the Fitness Center a hub for all members of the Haverford community passionate about their health and wellness,” said Miranda at the time of his hiring.

Starting as the assistant strength & conditioning coach at Fairleigh Dickinson prior to the 2017-18 academic year, Miranda was promoted to head strength & conditioning coach just one year later. In that role, Miranda led the strength & conditioning programs for all 19 of FDU’s 19 Division I programs. On top of those responsibilities, he also spent time teaching classes in the physical education department. Overseeing a staff of two graduate assistants, Miranda worked collaboratively with the University’s sports medicine staff to aid in injury prevention and student-athlete rehabilitation.

Miranda is a certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist through the National Strength & Conditioning Association (NSCA). He also holds certifications in Track & Field Strength & Conditioning and MyTPI through Titleist Performance (Level I). Miranda previously interned with Villanova University, the University of Pennsylvania, and the National Football League’s (NFL) New York Jets.

Miranda’s time at Haverford dates back to his undergraduate days as a team captain of the Fords’ baseball team as he helped lead that program to its first two Centennial Conference Championships before graduating in 2014 with his bachelor’s degree in East Asian studies.

Miranda stayed involved with the baseball team as an assistant coach through the 2017 season, helping the Fords to also capture the 2016 conference crown. He went on to receive his master’s degree in exercise science and health promotion: performance enhancement from California University of Pennsylvania in the spring of 2018.
