Fords' 4-1 week costs a few spots in national polls

HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Division III baseball polls have been released and Haverford College continues to garner votes. A 4-1 week, however, cost the Fords a few spots as they slid to No. 23 in the American Baseball Coaches Association's top-30 list and slipped out of the D3baseball.com top-25 ranking but received the most voting points (69) of unranked teams receiving votes.

Bouncing back from a Tuesday loss at Swarthmore College, the Fords rolled to consecutive victories over Moravian College, Swarthmore and a doubleheader sweep at Dickinson College to close out the week.

Sophomore pitcher Tommy Bergjans' masterful performance in the win over Swarthmore -- eight innings pitched without allowing a run or walk while striking out 12 and surrendering just one base hit, a single, to face one batter over the minimum -- garnered the right-hander the Centennial Conference's pitcher of the week award as announced by the league office Monday afternoon.

Haverford travels to Muhlenberg College on Tuesday for a conference outing then follows with a non-conference road game at Immaculata University on Wednesday before returning home Friday to square off against Muhlenberg again to complete the split-date doubleheader. The weekend brings a Saturday trip to Westminster, Md., where the Fords will face host McDaniel College in a Centennial twinbill.
