HAVERFORD, Pa. - Haverford College cricket had a fantastic weekend, winning both its matches against University of Pennsylvania and British Officers Cricket Club by big margins.
vs. University of Pennsylvania
On Saturday, against Penn, Haverford batted first and scored 192 runs for four wickets in the allotted 20 overs. Mohanish Bajaj (56) and Nihaal Kochar (74 not out) batted brilliantly to lay the solid foundation to reach an impressive total of 192 for four wickets. Agastya Singh also contributed a solid 17.
Penn, after a good start, managed to reach only 135 runs, giving Haverford a 57 runs win. Marnas (21), Panvar (17), and Amar (14), were the main scorers for University of Pennsylvania.
Ishpuneet Singh bowled extremely well and took four wickets for 27 runs. Sanil Kagawala and Deep Patel also bowled well and took a pair of wickets each. Aniketh Rao took two good catches and Samuel Ross took one of the best catches at Haverford.
vs. British Officers Cricket Club
Haverford had a convincing win over BOCC on Sunday. Haverford batted first and scored an impressive total of 252 runs in 25 overs. Sidd Phatak and Mohanish Bajaj had a great start of the innings again and scored 76 and 88, respectively. Nihaal Kocher played another fine inning scoring 48, Sanil Kagalwala (12) and Leo Gruenstein (6) added valuable runs towards the close of inning. BOCC's John Kenon took two wickets for 28 runs.
In reply, BOCC was able to score 140 runs for four wickets. Vishnu Singh (25), John Kenon (11), Niraj Mehta (28 retired) and Chris Lawrence (27) were the top scorers. Ishpuneet Singh bowled very well again and took two wickets for 15 runs. Deep Patel and Aniketh Rao both took one wicket each for 29 and four runs, respectively.
Haverford won by 112 runs overall.
The Fords will return to action on Saturday, September 28 for Germantown Cricket Club at noon, before a 12 p.m. showdown on Sunday, September 29 with Columbia. Each matchup is slated for Cope Field.
