HAVERFORD, Pa. - The Haverford College cricket team cruised to victory over a strong Merion Cricket Club team, a team that featured three members of the professional Philadelphian team along with other talented players, at the Merion Cricket Club ground in Haverford.
Merion batted first and scored 84 runs in the allotted 30 overs. Jon Keenon played a fine knock of 39, while Sivarem contributed 15 runs. Nihaal Kochar, Sanil Kagalwala, Ishpuneet Singh, and Agastya Singh bowled exceptionally well, taking two, two, three, and three, wickets, respectively.
Haverford started strong with the opening pair of Sidd Phatak and Mohanish Bajaj. However, Phatak was dismissed for 18 when the total was 25, and soon after, Bajaj fell for nine.
Haverford lost another wicket six runs later, leaving them at 39 for three. First-year Agastya Singh and senior Deep Patel then built a valuable 33-run partnership before Deep was dismissed.
Agastya Singh played a composed innings, remaining unbeaten on 25. Kagalwala then came in and struck two beautiful shots, scoring 2 and 4 runs. Haverford reached the target with 86 runs, securing victory with five wickets to spare.
Agastya Singh was named Man of the Match for his mature innings of 25 not out, and his outstanding bowling performance, taking three wickets for just nine runs.
