Second shut out for field hockey

HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford field hockey team was looking for more offense on Thursday coming off of Wednesday's dramatic 1-0 overtime victory, and they found what they were looking for as the Fords dominated the visiting Gators from the College of Notre Dame (Md.) in a 10-0 win at Swan Field.

The score was 4-0 by the time the clock was ticking into the game's eighth minute, an offensive push that began with Alex Waleko's second goal of the season which came at the 2:48 mark.

Mary Hobbs, Thursday's overtime hero, was next to score for Haverford followed by a second from Waleko and then Juliana Morgan-Trostle's first of the season which put the Fords ahead by four just 7:01 into the half.

The rest of the Haverford scoring was split between Roxanne Jaffe (3), Hobbs, and newcomer Bridget Gibbons (2). Gibbons' goals were her first as a collegian.

Another freshman, Christie Quake, finished the day with a team-high three assists.

Haverford held a 35-2 shots advantage in the game as well as a 17-2 edge in penalty corner opportunities. Notre Dame registered one shot on goal--during a scrum in front of the Haverford net--with defender Ariel Herm picking up her first defensive save of the year.

The shutout win was the second in a row for the Fords who will try to make it three in a row when they make the short drive up the Main Line to Bryn Mawr College for a Centennial Conference game at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, September 23.
