Haverford has record-setting day in field hockey win over Owls

BRYN MAWR, Pa. – The Haverford College field hockey team set a new program record in their 11-0 Centennial Conference victory over host Bryn Mawr College on Wednesday afternoon.

Having tied the previous mark for most goals in a game with 10 in their last outing, Haverford (3-2, 1-0) set a new record against the Owls (0-8, 0-3) while also recording their third consecutive shutout victory.

Seven different Fords scored in the record-setting win led by Alex Waleko, Josie Ferri, Lauren Kemph and Christine Gall who each scored two goals apiece. Waleko also picked up a pair of assists to give the sophomore a six point afternoon.

In the defensive end, Haverford limited Bryn Mawr to just two shots with only one of those making it on goal. Patrice Harkins registered a defensive save on the Owls' lone shot.

Bryn Mawr held the Fords to just one goal by Ferri over the first 20 minutes of the game and only trailed the visitors by a 4-0 count at the intermission. The Fords opened the floodgates on the way to their record-setting win early in the second half at the 39:32 mark when Ferri kicked off a string of five goals in less than 16 minutes with her second of the season.

Haverford has now won 11 straight against their conference rival and Wednesday's shutout was the third consecutive over the Owls who last beat the Fords in 1998.

Their three-game win streak will be put to the test in their next contest as the Fords travel to Gettysburg College on Saturday, September 26, for another conference game.
