Field hockey edged out by No. 15 Rowan 5-4

GLASSBORO, N.J. – The Rowan University field hockey team scored the game's final three goals to defeat visiting Haverford College, 5-4, in a non-conference match-up Saturday afternoon.

Forward Mary Hobbs led the Haverford (0-1) attack with a pair of goals. Midfielder Margaret Selsor and forward Bryn Bissey also scored for the Fords. Forward Juliana Morgan-Trostle added an assist.

Rowan (2-0), ranked 15th in the National Field Hockey Coaches Association poll, received a pair of goals from Ashley Adams, including the game-winner. Rachael Dix added a goal and an assist. Julie Cairone, Amy McKeever each scored as well.

Haverford held a slight edge in shots on goal (25-24) and penalty corners (14-11). Sydney Hyder made eight stops in the Ford net, while Lisa Apt turned aside nine shots for the Profs.

The Fords trailed 2-0 after 35 minutes of play. Haverford came out strong in the second half with four straight goals. Hobbs single-handedly tied the score at two with a pair of unassisted goals at 36:58 and 49:14. Just over a minute later, Selsor put the Fords in front by stuffing home a rebound. Bissey made it 4-2 at the 54:30 mark. Morgan-Trostle assisted on the play.

Rowan fought back with a goal from Cairone and the final two from Adams.

Haverford travels to Delaware to take on Wesley College in a non-conference game Wednesday, September 7 at 7 p.m.
