Second half roll leads field hockey over Dickinson

CARLISLE, Pa. - Mary Hobbs scored four goals and goalkeeper Sydney Hyder made 12 saves to push the Haverford College field hockey team to a 6-2 victory over host Dickinson College Saturday afternoon in the Centennial Conference opener for both teams.

Hobbs opened the scoring with a goal in the 21st minute to give Haverford (3-1, 1-0 CC) the early lead, but Dickinson (2-3, 0-1) responded quickly with a tying goal three minutes later.

Coming out of the halftime break deadlocked at 1-1, the Red Devils were able to nab the lead at the 42:47 mark on a score from Tanya Bellingham. It took a little less than six minutes for the Fords to answer as Bridget Gibbons netted her first of the season for the equalizer.

Hobbs scored a minute later then added her third of the day in the 64th minute. Alyssa Mayo continued the Haverford goal streak with a score in the 65th, then Hobbs notched her fourth four minutes later to push the score to 6-2 in favor of the Fords.

Haverford out shot the Red Devils by a 30-18 margin but 14 of the host's shots made it onto the Fords' goal where Hyder got the best of the Dickinson attack, tucking away 12 saves into her belt, six in each half. Dickinson goalie Katy Schlechtweg registered 11 saves and received help from her teammates who accumulated three defensive saves.

Next up for the Fords is another conference match-up, Tuesday night at Muhlenberg College in Allentown, Pa.
