Hobbs scores two but field hockey falls to Lebanon Valley

ANNVILLE, Pa. – Mary Hobbs scored twice for the Haverford College field hockey team Thursday afternoon but the Fords fell, 6-2, to host Lebanon Valley College in non-conference action at LVC Field Hockey Stadium.

Haverford (4-2) carried a four-game winning streak into the contest against the Dutchmen women (4-3) and got off to a quick start with Hobbs' first tally of the day just 23 seconds into the opening half. Lebanon Valley goalie Christine Poletti saved a shot from the Fords' Jacque Fagen but Hobbs collected the rebound and scored to register her seventh goal of the season.

The home team evened the score in the 25th minute but neither team was able to gain an advantage in the remaining minutes of the half, entering the intermission knotted at 1-1.

The Dutchmen collected a pair of early second-half goals but Hobbs was again the answer for the Haverford offense as she cut the lead back to just one.

Hobbs inserted the ball on a penalty corner in the 61st minute. Christie Quake put it right back to Hobbs who lifted the ball up, dribbled it on her stick several times as she drove toward the net then sent one last dribble up and over Poletti for the highlight reel score.

That would be the end of the scoring for Haverford, though, and the Dutchmen answered with three goals in the final six minutes to put the game out of reach.

Haverford goalkeeper Sydney Hyder took the loss after making 11 saves while Poletti earned the win for LVC registering 12 saves.

The road doesn't get any easier for the Fords in their next outing as they travel to No. 3 Messiah College (3-2) next Wednesday for a 7 p.m. non-conference match-up.
