Hobbs has record day as Fords silence Gettysburg

HAVERFORD, Pa. - Mary Hobbs' record-setting day helped elevate the Haverford College field hockey team to a 7-0 Centennial Conference victory over visiting Gettysburg College Saturday afternoon at Swan Field.

Hobbs scored four goals and added a pair of assists for the first 10-point game in Haverford (5-3, 3-0 CC) history. The junior forward helped lead a Fords attack that racked up 34 shots against a Gettysburg (3-5, 1-3) squad that only mustered four shots all game.

Juliana Morgan-Trostle scored the game-winner for the Fords, though, registering her fifth of the year to put Haverford up 1-0 in the game's seventh minute. Hobbs tallied the next two goals and Margaret Selsor, with her third of the season, pushed the lead to four by halftime.

The final margin of victory was established after Hobbs added two more, for a total of 12 this fall, in the second half, sandwiched around a Roxanne Jaffe goal.

The Fords controlled possession for the majority of the game, surrendering only two shots -- both saved -- on Haverford goalkeeper Sydney Hyder over a 17-second span a little more than 10 minutes into second-half action.

The upcoming week provides a challenge for Haverford as it welcomes 7th-ranked Ursinus College to Swan at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, then entertains Eastern University in a Main Line match-up Thursday at 5 p.m.
