HAVERFORD, Pa. – After cruising to a five-goal lead by halftime, the Haverford College field hockey team was able to cruise through second-half action in a, 6-1, non-conference victory over Main Line rival Eastern University Thursday evening at Swan Field.

Bryn Bissey opened the scoring for Haverford (6-4) with a goal in the ninth minute, then four minutes later Juliana Morgan-Trostle tallied what would become the game-winner over the visiting Eagles (5-6).

The Fords worked for a penalty corner opportunity at the 8:24 mark of the first half and after Eastern blunted the first scoring attempt, Bissey was able to corral the ball and bang home her fifth goal of the season to put Haverford up on the scoreboard first.

Offensive pressure by the Fords produced the second goal of the game with Morgan-Trostle eventually notching her sixth of the season. Teammate Mary Hobbs' shot was saved by Eastern goalkeeper Christin Suetterlein but Margaret Selsor gained control of the rebound and snapped off a shot that Morgan-Trostle deflected in for the game's second goal.

Bridget Gibbons added a score followed by two from Hobbs to build a halftime lead of 5-0 over the shell-shocked Eagles. Haverford outgunned the visitors in the opening 35 minutes getting off 13 shots to just seven by Eastern.

Christine Gall capped off the Haverford scoring with a goal in the 52nd minute allowing the Fords to sail through the final 18 minutes for the win. Eastern did erase the goose-egg on the scoreboard with a goal in the 60th, but the deficit was too large and time too short for any more of a rally.

Haverford net minder Sydney Hyder finished with five saves in the win allowing just the one goal. She was aided by her teammates twice during the game as Gibbons registered a defensive save in the first half and Roxanne Jaffed added one in second-half action.

The Fords travel to Lancaster, Pa., for their next outing, a Sunday afternoon Centennial match-up against host Franklin & Marshall College, the No. 3 team in the country.
