Field hockey flys high in win over visiting Owls

HAVERFORD, Pa. – It only took a few seconds longer than a minute for the Haverford College field hockey team to score the eventual game-winning goal Wednesday in its 11-0 Centennial Conference win over visiting Bryn Mawr College at rainy Swan Field.

Mary Hobbs took a feed from Molly Braun at the 1:04 mark and scored to give Haverford (7-6, 4-3 CC) a quick lead over the overmatched Owls (1-12, 0-8). Hobbs would score two more in the opening half as the Fords built a 6-0 lead before heading into the intermission.

Haverford got goals from nine different players in the win, including one each from freshmen Jen DiMaria, Catherine Aronowitz, Hannah Morgan and Margot Erhlich who all scored their first collegiate goals in the victory. Braun finished the day with three assists and Juliana Morgan-Trostle registered a pair of assists.

The Fords were in constant attack-mode throughout the game accumulating 44 shots to just two by Bryn Mawr. A pair of Owls goalkeepers came up with 16 saves while Haverford net minder Sydney Hyder was required to make just one diving save which came in second-half action. Haverford also created 15 penalty corner opportunities in the win while limiting the visitors to only three.

The Fords travel to Westminster, Md., for their next game, an important Centennial showdown against host McDaniel College at noon on Saturday.
