Fords slip to 11th in national poll

CHANDLER, Ariz. – Haverford College's field hockey team posted a pair of wins over the past week -- including a thrilling 2-1 overtime victory at Gettysburg College -- but slipped one spot to 11th in the Penn Monto/National Field Hockey Coaches Association poll released by the NFHCA on Tuesday afternoon.

The good news for the Fords (8-1, 3-0 Centennial Conference) was that they picked up more points in the rankings despite dropping a spot. Last week's poll had Haverford tied at No. 10 with Montclair State University, each with 599 points. Tuesday's rankings have the Fords 11th with 631 points, only four shy of 10th-ranked Montclair.

Salisbury University maintained its hold on the top spot, garnering 33 first-place votes and 1,202 points. Of Centennial schools listed in the rankings, Franklin & Marshall College moved up one spot to eighth, and unranked Gettysburg received 74 points, 24 points short of the No. 20 ranking held by Babson College.

Last week Haverford beat back a pesky Misericordia University squad, 2-1, in a mid-week game then downed Gettysburg on it's home turf Saturday, getting an overtime goal from Mary Hobbs just 77 seconds into the extra period.
