Centennial tabs Gibbons player of the week

LANCASTER, Pa. – The Centennial Conference announced on Monday afternoon that Haverford College's Bridget Gibbons has been named the league's offensive field hockey player of the week after scoring a hat trick to lead the Fords to an overtime win Saturday afternoon.

Gibbons rallied the 14th-ranked Fords in a 3-2 come-from-behind overtime victory against visiting Johns Hopkins University on Saturday at Swan Field, scoring each of Haverford's goals.

After opening the scoring in the first half, only to see the Blue Jays wrest the lead away with consecutive second-half goals, Gibbons was able to net the equalizer with 10 minutes remaining in regulation then completed the hat trick with an overtime tally just 55 seconds into the extra period.

The overtime score was the senior midfielder's first game-winner in the 2012 season and pushed her season total to five goals, second-most on the season for the nationally-ranked Fords.

Haverford (9-4, 4-2 Centennial) continues conference action this week with a Thursday afternoon game at Bryn Mawr College (5-8, 0-7) and a noontime home contest on Saturday at Swan against McDaniel College (8-5, 3-3).
