Field hockey makes the grade for national academic award

CHANDLER, Ariz. – The 2012 field hockey team from Haverford College has earned inclusion on the Division III national academic team award listing sponsored by Gladiator by SGI, and released by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Monday afternoon.

The Fords were among 125 teams -- including each of the Centennial Conference's 11 institutions -- that completed the fall semester of the 2012-13 academic year with the required 3.00 cumulative grade point average.

The top five performers on the national D-III listing were MIT (3.56 GPA), Ramapo College and Wesleyan University (3.55), and Richard Stockton College and Simmons College (3.54).

Haverford completed the 2012 season with a 14-5 mark, tying a program record, and played its way into the Centennial tournament final for the second time in three years (2012, 2010). The Fords have participated in the semifinals of the league playoffs each of the past four seasons allowing the Class of '13 to be the first graduating class to accomplish that feat.

The departing seniors accumulated 46 wins over four years and registered a .630 winning percentage to mark the Class as the winningest in program history.
