Waldis Named to Philly-SIDA Academic All-Area Team

Philly-SIDA Release

PHILADELPHIA – Senior Sarah Waldis was named to the Philadelphia Inquirer's 2015 Field Hockey Academic All-Area Team as released by the Philadelphia Area Sports Information Directors Association (Philly-SIDA).

In order to be eligible for Academic All-Area honors, an athlete must be in at least his or her second year at the institution and hold a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 or better. The team is voted on by the sports information offices of the 29 area institutions from the Philadelphia metropolitan area.

Last week, Waldis was selected to the Longstreth/National Field Hockey Coaches Association's (NFHCA) All-South Region first team. She was the Ford to be named to the team since Bryn Bissey '14 in 2013 (second team).

Waldis had a banner senior campaign as she set new career highs in goals (nine), assists (five) and points (23). The captain of the field hockey team had tallies in eight games this season, registering her first career multi-goal outing in a 7-0 victory over Immaculata (Sept. 15).

Her stellar season led her to being honored on the All-Centennial Conference first team. It was Waldis' second All-Centennial Conference accolade as she was a second-team member in 2013. The senior also made the Centennial Conference Fall Academic Honor Roll for the third time and was the recipient of the conference's Scholar-Athlete Award, given to the junior or senior on the all-conference team that has the highest cumulative GPA.

Ursinus' Megan Kennan was selected as the Academic All-Area Performer of the Year for the second straight season. Other members of the team include Stephanie Bacho (Gwynedd Mercy), Megan Bolton (Eastern), Sarah Deck (Temple), Alyssa Delp (Temple), Becky Guinto (Neumann), Lauren Hibshman (Drexel), Elizabeth Hitti (Penn), Mikayla Ninos (Widener) and Kristina Scherrer (West Chester).

Haverford finished 11-7 in 2015, making the Centennial Conference playoffs for the sixth time in the last seven seasons. The Fords have won at least 10 games in five of head coach Jackie Cox's six seasons.
