BROCKPORT, N.Y. - The Haverford College field hockey program has placed three student-athletes on the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division III Scholars of Distinction list, the organization announced in a release on Tuesday morning. The three Haverford student-athletes on the listing represents a program record for the award, which was first announced in 2012. In total, over 450 Division III field hockey student-athletes were honored with the prestigious plaudit. The Scholars of Distinction program recognizes student-athletes who have achieved a cumulative grade-point average of 3.9 or higher through the first semester of the 2020-21 academic year.

Junior Sophia Mercado (Wilton, Conn.) earned the award for the second consecutive season, becoming the first Haverford athlete to pick up the honor in multiple seasons since Sarah Waldis '16 captured the award in 2012, 13, and 14. The psychology major has appeared in 16 contests through two competitive campaigns at Haverford, seeing action on defense in nine wins for the Fords. Joining Mercado as Scholars of Distinction were first years Anna Bradley (Carlsbad, Calif.) and Annika Kline (St. Louis, Mo.) as the pair excelled in their initial semester of studies at Haverford.

The NFHCA has already announced the 2020 NFHCA Division III National Academic Squad as Haverford placed all 27 members of the field hockey team on the squad, representing the second-most selections in the nation. The final 2020 NFHCA Division III Academic Award, the NFHCA Division III National Academic Team Award, will be announced on March 29. The Fords are expected to earn that honor for the 15th consecutive season.
