CC Preseason Poll: Field Hockey Picked Sixth

CC Preseason Poll: Field Hockey Picked Sixth

Full Centennial Conference Release

HAVERFORD, Pa. - The Haverford College field hockey team has been picked sixth in the 2022 Centennial Conference preseason poll, the conference office announced in a release on Friday. Reigning Centennial Conference champs John Hopkins topped the poll for a second consecutive season.

No stranger to outpacing the poll's preseason expectations, Haverford was picked ninth, but stormed its way into the national rankings and eventually took a Centennial Conference playoff spot in 2021. Haverford reached a peak of No. 17 in the NFHCA Coaches Poll in late October and also was regionally ranked in the second release of the NCAA Division III Regional Rankings. Haverford's 13 total wins ranked just one victory short of matching the program's single-season record, and the Fords 13-2 start to the season was the best in program history.

Ursinus secured second place in the preseason rankings with 89 points, while Franklin & Marshall totaled 76 points to finish in third. Swarthmore received the remaining first-place vote with 62 points. Dickinson (61) and the Fords (57) were projected to finish in fifth and sixth, respectively, while Bryn Mawr (49) claimed seventh place. Gettysburg was selected eighth with 46 points, followed by Washington College (32), Muhlenberg (23), and McDaniel (10).

Haverford opens up its home schedule with a matchup against Alvernia on September 1. The team begins conference play on Saturday, Sept. 24 at McDaniel.  A highlight of the 2022 non-conference schedule is a trip to the Hampton Roads area of Virginia to face off with the Captains of Christopher Newport. That game is slated for September 10 and kicks off a string of five consecutive road contests.
