Palmer honored with Cozen Player of the Week honor

PHILADELPHIA – Senior Matt Palmer of the Haverford College men's basketball team was honored as the Sam Cozen Player of the Week by the Philadelphia Area Small College Coaches Association at its luncheon Tuesday afternoon at the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia.

Palmer finishes a career at Haverford that leaves him tied for most games played, 99, in the program's history. He accumulated 2,613 minutes of action, fourth-most in the program while averaging 26 minutes, 24 seconds of playing time per game. His 106 three-point field goals are fourth most in program rankings and he finished with 100 career steals (ninth) and 173 assists (11th).

The 6-foot, 170 pound guard from Seven Fields, Pa., and Sewickley Academy (Pa.), culminated his four years at Haverford with single-season career-highs in points (172), field goals (54), assists (65), rebounds (57) and minutes played (830). His 28 three-point field goals led the Fords as did his assists total.

Palmer led Haverford and the Centennial Conference in minutes played per game, 34:58, as the Fords (11-13, 9-9 CC) fell one win shy of qualifying for the league's postseason tournament finishing the regular season standings in sixth place.

Now in its 23rd season, the Small College Coaches Association honors Philadelphia area small college basketball players at its bi-weekly luncheons, not only for their performances on the court but also for their leadership and academic success, ideals emphasized by the late Sam Cozen, longtime coach at Drexel University and for whom the award is named.
