Cabrini rolls to win over visiting Fords

RADNOR, Pa. – The cold front coming through the area seemed to match the outcome for the Haverford College men's basketball team Friday night at Cabrini College as the host Cavaliers rolled to a 71-58 non-conference win over the Fords in the first-ever meeting between the two schools located just five miles apart.

Haverford (3-5) scored the opening basket of the game but Cabrini (7-1) answered with an 11-0 run to build a lead that the Fords could never overcome.

They came back initially, clawing within one at 11-10, but a 21-2 run by the Cavaliers put Haverford in a hole that was too deep to fight back from.

Three Fords reached double-figures in scoring, led by Sam Permutt's 16 points, but a chilly night of 37 percent shooting from the field prevented Haverford from rallying against the Cavaliers who shot a toasty 54 percent from the floor.

Matt Palmer's 15 points and Cam Baker's 13 combined with Permutt's numbers for 44 of the team's 58 points in the loss. Doug Edelman pulled down a team-high eight rebounds for the Fords.

Cabrini's Kevin Misevicius' 20 points led the Cavaliers offensively while Goran Dulac's game-high nine boards helped the hosts out rebound Haverford by a 35-27 margin.

Despite the margin of victory, neither team played a sparkling game as the two squads combined for 47 turnovers – 23 from the Fords – and 29 steals.

Haverford will try to end a three-game skid in their next contest, a match-up against Division I Elon (N.C.) University – 79-76 losers at N.C. State Thursday night – on the home court of the Phoenix Monday night.
